Our server was attacked by a large group of griefers, led by a streamer. Now, this kind of thing will happen, it's kinda unavoidable - but I wanted to talk about what actually happened and how we deal with situations like this.
Now, firstly, about 50 accounts join the server in quick succession this is rather suspicious. However this is not always a bad thing, typically when a heap of accounts join at once they tend to be a spambot, of course this wasn't the case and we quickly realised they were individual accounts.
From the moment they all joined we instantly knew something was up, and quickly called for as many staff to get on to help (this is just common for most things). Before too long some people starting sharing the streamer's twitch link, which subsequently gave us a better insight into what was going on. And because of this we were able to quickly ban the streamer, both by account and then subsequently by his IP. And After this they kinda moved on. After this it was just a case of banning any remaining griefers and rolling everything back.
Now, I really don't see what it is these people get from doing this, because it really only took about 30 minutes to fix everything, and get the server back to normal. Which isn't really a lot in the whole scheme of things for us. We are prepared for this kind of situation, that's part of our server in general, and our logging and rollback system is more than powerful enough to deal with this. And even then, we always have the ability to close the server if things get bad enough and just wait until the grief team moves on, then bring it back and fix everything.
Anyway, just wanted to update everyone. Everything is fixed as far as we know, but of course any grief you find can still be reported and will be fixed as soon as possible.
